Horse Behaviour
Is your horse showing changes in behaviour, struggling with handling, or finding everyday situations difficult? We'll develop a plan tailored to your horse and your goals.
Veterinary support for your horse's behaviour
Is your horse showing changes in behaviour, becoming difficult to handle, or struggling with situations they previously managed well?
Behaviour problems in horses can be influenced by many factors, including fear, learning history, management, environment, pain and other medical concerns. Veterinary behaviour assessment considers both physical and behavioural health to help identify contributing factors and develop a practical treatment plan.
We can help with concerns including:
- Fear and anxiety
- Separation-related behaviour
- Aggression or irritability
- Handling, grooming, farrier or veterinary-care difficulties
- Loading and travel problems
- Stereotypic or repetitive behaviours
- Behaviour changes associated with ridden work, tacking or handling
- Reluctance, resistance or avoidance behaviours where pain or discomfort may be contributing
- Other complex or concerning changes in behaviour
What happens during a consultation?
We take a detailed history of your horse's behaviour, health, management, environment and training, and consider whether pain or other medical factors may be contributing.
Following assessment, we develop an individual treatment plan. Depending on your horse's needs, this may include:
- changes to management or environment
- safety and handling strategies
- behaviour modification and training recommendations
- investigation or treatment of possible medical or pain-related contributors
- medication where appropriate
- collaboration with your regular veterinarian, trainer, physiotherapist or other professionals involved in your horse's care
You will receive a written plan following the consultation, with follow-up support included in the initial consultation package.
